The 18th annual Women In Military Service For America Memorial Veterans Day ceremony will be held this year at 3 p.m., Nov. 11, 2015. The ceremony, one of the major observances in the nation’s capital, is free and open to the public and will include formal military honors, a keynote address, veterans’ remarks, and a wreath laying.
Delivering this year’s keynote address is journalist Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and best-selling author of “Ashley’s War: The Untold Story of a Team of Women Soldiers on the Special Ops Battlefield.” Ms. Lemmon’s distinguished career includes presidential politics and public policy for the ABC News Political Unit and editorial producer for “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” She is a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Financial Times, Fast Company, The Christian Science Monitor, The Atlantic and Newsweek Daily Beast where she writes about foreign policy, developing economies, Afghanistan, and entrepreneurship, especially as these issues relate to women. She regularly appears on various broadcast networks, including PBS, MSNBC, CNN and NPR; and she has delivered several TED talks. Ms. Lemmon is also the author of the best-selling book “The Dressmaker of Khair Khana.”
As is the Women’s Memorial tradition, five servicewomen, one from each military service, will join Ms. Lemmon, in paying tribute to the nation’s military veterans. USA Freedom Kids, an ensemble of five young-lady singers from Naples, FL, will round out the program with a performance of patriotic songs.
Ms. Lemmon will be available to sign books following the program. Copies of “Ashley’s War” will be on sale in the Memorial gift shop.
