CSM James B. Kendrick Selected as Command Sergeant Major, Florida Army
National Guard
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (June 25, 2019) – Major General James O. Eifert, The
Adjutant General of Florida, is pleased to announce the selection of Command
Sergeant Major James B. Kendrick as the Command Sergeant Major for the
Florida Army National Guard. “Brian’s extensive knowledge, comprehensive
experience and proven leadership make him the right Soldier for the job. He
will be an exceptional addition to our Florida Army National Guard
leadership team,” said Major General Eifert.
Command Sergeant Major Kendrick enlisted in the active Army in 1989,
following graduation from Bradford County High School, and served as a
Combat Engineer with the 9th Engineer Battalion in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
While assigned with the 9th Engineer Battalion, he deployed in support of
Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After completing his deployment
and active duty tour, in 1991 he transitioned to the Florida Army National
Guard with assignment to the 153rd Engineer Company in Lake City.
Command Sergeant Major Kendrick volunteered for Explosive Ordnance Disposal
Technician duty in 1993, and served with the 221st Ordnance Company where he
excelled through the ranks to the position of First Sergeant. In 2006, as
First Sergeant, he deployed with the 221st Ordnance Company in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom, coordinating three explosive ordnance disposal
teams operating in Kuwait, Iraq, and Qatar. In 2008, he was selected for
promotion to Sergeant Major and transferred to the Joint Force Headquarters,
G3 (Operations and Training) Directorate. In 2013, he was selected for
appointment to Command Sergeant Major for the 211th Regiment, Regional
Training Institute where he served as Commandant for the Noncommissioned
Officer Academy. Additional leadership tours include serving as Command
Sergeant Major for the 753rd Brigade Engineer Battalion and his current
assignment as Command Sergeant Major for the 83d Troop Command.
Additionally, he currently serves as a full-time employee with the Joint
Force Headquarters, G1 (Military Personnel) Directorate.
Command Sergeant Major Kendrick is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants
Major Academy, Non-Resident Course (Class 36). He holds a Bachelor of
Science in Engineering Studies from Charter Oak State College and a Master
of Science in Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His
numerous awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious
Service Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Southwest
Asia Service Medal (2nd Award), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism
Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Florida Distinguished
Service Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal
Badge, and French Armed Forces Commando Badge. He is a recipient of the
Ordnance Association’s Order of Samuel Sharpe award.
Command Sergeant Major Kendrick and his wife Tracey reside in Keystone
Heights, Florida with their three daughters, Katelyn, Chloe, and Kelsey.
